National Arboretum Maternity Session

Every photographer has dream sessions. The light, wardrobe, location, subjects that fall into place in a way that captures timeless magic. As a Washington, DC Maternity photographer, this was one of those magical sessions for me. Not only have Dana and David been an absolute joy to work with, but their beauty, grace, and style in combination with this magical backdrop made for photos I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture.

I have a list of locations that I would absolutely love the opportunity to shoot at for years now. The National Arboretum has been at the top of my list so I was THRILLED when Dana and David were on board with shooting there! I cannot wait to have the opportunity to shoot at the stunning landmark again (please let me know if you are interested!).

Dressed to Impress

Also can we talk about this stunning couple’s style? Both of their outfits were absolutely perfect for them and complicated this timeless location so elegantly. Neutral colors are often fantastic options, but there are definitely scenarios where pops of the right color make for pure magic, and this was one no question of them. Dana simply glowed in both of her options and they stood out perfectly against the neutral column backdrop. Looking for similar styles for your session? You can find Dana’s yellow dress here!

I want to share a little moment from this session. As a DC maternity photographer, I have seen my fair share of challenges during sessions. The moment that Dana stepped out of the car, water spilled all over her stunning yellow dress. Rather than letting it impact the session, she went with her equally beautiful second dress to start with while her yellow dress dried hanging on a tree. They didn’t miss a beat with this hiccup that would have likely reduced many of us to tears (me included!) and it resulted in a stress-free session. There is a lot that can happen during photo sessions to X. Kiddos that don’t cooperate, wardrobe malfunctions, weather changes, etc., but staying calm and going with the flow is often the key to success.
