I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again 1 million times but photographing families over and over again is such an honor. As a Northern Virginia Family Photographer, watching families grow through the years and being asked to photograph them multiple times is a gift that I don’t take for granted. I have photographed this beautiful family multiple times over the last few years, in the midst of a new addition, and a few family portraits. Do they have impeccable style (seriously, how cute are these outfits?), but they are also the absolute sweetest and such a joy to work with!

Session Styling

Styling is definitely included as part of the Alexia Ballantine photography portrait experience. It can be really stressful figuring out to wear for sessions, and I’m always here to help provide guidance every step of the way.

One of the things that I often advise to clients is to stick to neutral color pallets. Light and true to color style often works best with natural, neutral colors including white, creams,, browns, pastel colors like light blue and pink, etc. However, there are times where this rule doesn’t necessarily apply. I think that time of year, feel of the overall style of your session, and the location can play a role in wardrobe choices. While I would never advise extremely vibrant colors for sessions, there are times where dark colors or slightly brighter colors can work. This session is the perfect example of that! Orange is typically a color I would recommend steering clear of! However, a natural burnt orange mixed in with more neutral light blue and camel colors totally worked!
