Nothing is better than a surprise snowy Maryland maternity session in the middle of winter! We usually only get one or maybe two good snowfalls a year here, so when one coincides with a maternity session its like the stars and planets align to make magic. Gorgeous mama Tiffany and her husband Jared were such good sports during this epically freezing session. Definitely the coldest session I have ever photographed by quite a bit. I would say the outcome was worth it though!

This beautiful state park made such a stunning natural backdrop, and I love the pops of green amongst the white sea of snow. At one point, we even discovered what appeared to be hundreds of geese in the lake, which was so memorable! We may have needed to take a quick warm-up break but luckily I have enough maternity sessions under my belt at this point that we moved through about six different spots very quickly!

Going with the Flow

This snowy Maryland maternity session is the perfect example of how sometimes things don’t turn out how you envision (we didn’t expect this much snow when they booked the session). With that said, we can always create magic! If there isn’t rain or extremely heavy winds, we can make basically any circumstance work. This mama had another beautiful location chosen for her session but was completely open to my recommendation of changing locations following the snowfall. Going with the flow, trusting your photographer, and having a little bit of flexibility helps so much in these situations. We were able to pivot to another local spot that maximized the snow-filled scenery.
